Cem Avcı is currently a Professor of Civil Engineering at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. His research has focused in environmental and social impact assessment and quantification in oil and gas upstream projects, energy and infrastructure investment projects conducted in Turkey. He has worked with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in development of regulatory framework related to waste management and contaminated land management. Prof. Avci has also over thirty years of experience in the consulting field of environmental related projects. Prof. Avci worked as a technical director to IFC and EBRD standards driven impact assessments of large investment projects including Turkstream and Southstream natural gas pipeline projects, PPP Integrated Health Campus Projects across Turkey, Eurasian Bosphorus Tunnel Crossing, Shale Gas Development Projects. His consulting expertise includes environmental and social impact assessment studies, environmental due diligence studies, waste management and contaminated land remediation, soil and ground water quality investigations. Prof. Avci has given seminars together with multinational and national banks on environmental and social risk assessments in project finance.
